Model Guidelines for processing pension Papers
The following model guidelines should be followed for processing pension papers to ensure timely and accurate settlement of pension cases:
Timeline for Processing
- Pension applications should be submitted at least 6 months before the date of retirement
- PSA should forward the proposal within 1 month of receipt of application
- COA should process and authorize pension within 2 months of receipt of proposal
- Pension should be authorized before or on the date of retirement
Verification Requirements
- Service Book should be complete with all entries verified
- Date of birth should be verified from original records
- Qualifying service should be calculated accurately
- Last pay drawn should be verified
- DCRG should be calculated as per rules
- Commuted value of pension should be calculated correctly
