Model Guidelines for processing pension Papers

The following model guidelines should be followed for processing pension papers to ensure timely and accurate settlement of pension cases:

Timeline for Processing

  • Pension applications should be submitted at least 6 months before the date of retirement
  • PSA should forward the proposal within 1 month of receipt of application
  • COA should process and authorize pension within 2 months of receipt of proposal
  • Pension should be authorized before or on the date of retirement

Verification Requirements

  • Service Book should be complete with all entries verified
  • Date of birth should be verified from original records
  • Qualifying service should be calculated accurately
  • Last pay drawn should be verified
  • DCRG should be calculated as per rules
  • Commuted value of pension should be calculated correctly
